You might be surprised at the list of notables who have availed themselves of bankruptcy protection.  Of course, there are millions who go through bankruptcy every year.  But it is reassuring to know that some of the most important people in American history have gone through bankruptcy.

According to CNN  some of those folks include:

  • The third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, who is on the nickel and the two dollar bill;
  • The sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who is on the penny and the five dollar bill; and
  • The eighteenth president of the United States, Ulysses Grant, who is on the fifty dollar bill.

Thus, most of our currency contains the visages of people who have gone through bankruptcy.

CNN reports a few more surprises including Henry Ford, Milton “Mr. Chocolate” Hershey, and Walt Disney (before he learned how to make vermin cute).
